Hair loss 101

Hair loss can be a very complex issue with many potential causes.  Let’s start by addressing 2 of the most common forms:

--Androgenic (standard age related hair loss in men and women)

              --Telogen effluvium (excessive shedding)

Androgenic loss can begin occurring earlier in life (teens) or may wait until later adulthood.  In women, we see overall hair thinning particularly a widening of the part.  In men we see hair loss starting at the vertex and receding hair line.  We have MANY great treatment options including topicals and orals.  We have really good customized Rx strength topicals available in office for both men and women.  We also offer PRP injections and have seen the best results when this procedure is started early in the hair loss process.

Excessive shedding is a normal response of the body to any kind of stress or illness.  It occurs 3-6 months after an illness, medication change, stress, or delivery of a baby.  We have seen a ton of this after COVID19.  Usually we let the hair loss ride out on its own, but we do have treatments available including supplementation with Rx strength vitamins, Rx topicals and in office procedures.
