Perioral dermatitis

Experiencing a pimple-like but also dry-flaky rash around your mouth, nose or eyes?  It may be perioral dermatitis, a very common reactive rash in children, men and women.

1.        Consider the culprit.  Most often blamed on cortisones or tooth paste additives like fluoride or flavorings, you may also want to consider anti-aging skincare ingredients.  “I sometimes see tretinoin causing this rash.  It may need to be stopped temporarily to fully treat the rash.”—Lauren Kyle, MD Board Certified Dermatologist

2.       Minimize your skincare.  Use only a gentle cleanser and moisturizer while you are undergoing treatment.

3.       Seek medical care.  Submit an online consultation to receive prescription therapies.  “There are both oral and topical treatments we can use to treat this rash” explains Dr. Kyle.

4.       Be patient!  It takes 6 weeks+ for your rash to resolve.  Don’t stop treatment too early.  Make sure you continue your topicals until the rash has been completely clear for several weeks.
